Ode to Spot
Felis Cattus, is your taxonomic nomenclature,
an endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature?
Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses
contribute to your hunting skills, and natural defenses.

I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
a singular development of cat communications
that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
for a rhythmic stroking of your fur, to demonstrate affection.

A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
you would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aide in locomotion,
it often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.

O Spot, the complex levels of behaviour you display
connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

Star Trek: TNG Season 6, Episode 5 “Schisms”

When this gel is done staining I shall return home, practice violin for a bit, and then watch Star Trek TNG all evening while smoking fancy cigars and kush.  Good start to a weekend, I’d say.

Some of the holiday gifts from the boy.

Top: double helix necklace with matching earrings

Bottom: pizza cutter shaped like the USS Enterprise

Yeah, he probably has one of the nerdiest gfs ever.  Lucky him.  He also got me a Gordon Ramsay cookbook and a peppermill.

Someone once told me that time was a predator that stalked us all our lives. But I rather believe that time is a companion who goes with us on the journey — reminds us to cherish every moment because they’ll never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we’ve lived.
